This would be yet more derisory laughable nonsense from BBPA were their grip on the message side of this industry not so damned pernicious. BBPA are the only people OFT and other lightweight observers of the industry take seriously.

WHY? This, from the BBPA website, is why:

"The BBPA is the leading organisation representing the UK beer and pub sector. Our members account for 98% of beer brewed in the UK and own more than half of Britain's 54,000 pubs."

BBPA strongly to implies at every turn that it is THE representative body for British pubs. NO IT ISN'T. BBPA is the leading organisation representing the interests of its owners and puppetmasters, the pubcos. BBPA has NO interest in the well being of individual lessees whatsoever. BBPA is the political wing and acceptable public face of pubcos - no more no less. It is the front the pubcos hide behind while they get on with their mission of stripping the country's pub stock bare.

BBPA does not represent the views of a single - NOT ONE - individual independent lessee, publican, licensee, manager, free house pub owner or pot washer in Britain - all of whom they hold in utter disdain.

The sycophantic back up organisations which give the BBPA credibility in hard times are BII and FLVA - put together they are the Devil's Triumverate of misinformation, spin and alternative reality of the state of the industry.

All three organisations have a historical standing in the pub trade. Separately they have credibility based on (long) past performance. Since the advent of pubcs they each have become entirely dependent on pubcos for their existence. Pubcos ARE their raison d'etre.

None is in any practical way representative of the interests of individual licensees, lessees, pub businesses or the consumer. Their working together gives each credibility they cannot sustain alone. If one looks into the background of each of these organisations there is a lurking pubco presence wholly absent in all other pub trade bodies.

BBPA: OFT's beer tie report was robust
