Opinion: upbeat vibe at landmark mediation meet

Well Peter, some people think that licensees 'having to make concessions' means they will have to accept that the tie will stay in some form or another. That's the concession they mean. This view has led those who say the tie should be outlawed are 'extremists'.

'Extremists?' A word bandied about far too flippantly now. I like that in the pub industry, alone of all industries, people campaigning for freedom of choice, freedom of supply and freedom of market are accused of being 'loony lefties'. It's not even said tongue in cheek.
