Scottish & Newcastle UK, the brewer of John Smiths and Fosters, is to make up to 100 jobs redundant, M&C Report understands.

The move represents about 5% of UK-based staff and affects individuals working within the on-trade sales force plus support roles.

Sources close to the company said the move was a direct result of the current on-trade beer market and in line with similar rationalisations at other companies in the market.

S&N UK - now a division of Heineken — has entered into a consultation period with staff.

In addition, the group's leased pub arm S&N Pub Enterprises is already in consultation with staff over redundancies — up to 40 positions are expected to be lost.

LATE OR NOT: knew this would happen.

Cockles; Heart; Warmed. Have a very good idea of a couple at least who will not last the night of the long knives.

Daft thing is I have a feeling that before long bailiffs will be standing behind my bar telling my customers that my stock belongs to them.
