Pub Is The Hub.
Of the many village / rural pubs that are suffering nationally, how many are the only pub in the village? (doff cap to Little Britain).
How many of these sole sentries of community focus are under threat of closure because of current economic climate? How many are tied and under threat of closure because they are not able to meet rent commitments and beer invoices? How many are free of tie and under threat of closure because they are not able to meet rent commitments and beer invoices? How many are freehold and under threat of closure because they can't pay their bills?
It would be fascinating to compare free of tie leased, freeholds and tied pubs in sole village pub situations across the country to see whether one breed fares consistently better or worse than another. Of course we know the answer already but knowing without evidence means nothing.
All those lovely pubs waiting to become residential palaces up and down the land must be someone's dream. Trebles all round.
Proof is needed. How do you get proof?
