RE: [Under Review]

Re It's All Over's disgusting remarks about Ewan Turney, this is a despicable comment and completely out of order. You should be ashamed of yourself. You are not fit to take part in our discussions and are forthwith banned.

RE: [Under Review]

Cant argue with your actions Andrew. The comments were rude and not fit to be heard in a pub never mind a national forum. However, the person in question has misplaced his anger and in doing so has taken his eyes off the goal. Resentment and anger towards the pubcos has reached an all-time high and it is so important that the MA’s position is not put at risk and these excellent forums are allowed to continue.

But Andrew even the MA must accept that there is a fundamental problem with our Industry and unless there is a change the shouting will only get louder.

RE: [Under Review]
Think you're right, Stephen. We seem to be in unchartered waters, with every one taken by surprise at how many serious problems the pubco model is facing all at the same time. Bankers told us they "tested to destruction" the securitised pubco models they lent so much money to 10-15 years ago. But I don't think any of them dreamt that the potential bad times would be as bad as they're now proving. The more we read in the national papers about what the high-street banks are doing with their withdrawal of credit and mortgages, the more you fear we're in line for a very major recession. How can pubs cope if millions of consumers find they have no spare cash any more. I don't think the pubco model, or any business model, has an answer for that.

RE: [Under Review]

Andrew,as "mine host"as you are it's a pleasure to get your personal views. The Pubco model is not the original Breweryco model which ,surprise, surprise, depended on good old fasioned Estate Management.Nobody got screwed, everbody(well almost everybody) made a reasonable if not good living, and life was not built on confrontation. The then District Managers knew their patch, and the Brewery Tenants knew and generally respected the DMs.

The Pubco module is inherently flawed because they don't make the stuff they sell,ie:beer. That one little factor instills no pride in the Pubco module and in a falling market ,flogging the guts out of lessees by ever increasing rents is a sure sign of lousy Estate Management.

To quote an old Apache saying,"When all the buffalo have been eaten, and all the fish have been killed, and the rivers have run dry,you cannot eat money".

RE: [Under Review]
Andrew re. my previous comments about a serious headline article, is it that impossible to run a serious article in the MA highlighting these insulting rescue packages by these Pub Co's and their only alternative to not accepting them is repossession. They have been pushing them out from long before Christmas and supposed total secrecy under pain of termination or extermination of lessees businesses. David is absolutely correct we had a balanced leased and tennanted industry before these City Dealers appeared and we now have financial chaos pending for thousands of small and large pubs nationwide. We won't touch these City Dealers they have milked their millions out of the industry and if it does collapse they will walk away and leave all the thinking people in the industry to try and get what's left of it back on it's feet where possible. I don't care if the shareholders complain, if the Pub Co's financial gearing is not equipped for the current problems, they have generated a substantial part of this mess it's about time that they used their financial know how to put it right, screwing licensees out of their businesses is not the answer in a pending possible recession.

RE: Enterprise promises rent concessions
David am I being naive on the confidentiality clause effectively banning the lessee from disclosing any of the terms of the lease to a third party. - Ken

Do what!? If the police took me in for questioning over a serious crime and read me my rights, I would be allowed representation from a third party, namely a solicitor, even if I was caught in the act of committing murder.

I find it difficult to believe that the matter under discussion here falls within the bounds of legality. How is one supposed to plan one's business strategy without reference to one's bank manager, solicitor, accountant or web hosting provider?

I was surprised by the remarks aimed at Ewan Turney. I have recently had an exchange of views with Ewan with regard to matter not entirely favourable to me and I will say that Ewan handled the situation with decorum and deserves respect for doing so.

I can't remember the precise wording of the invective directed at Ewan, but it was distasteful to say the least. Such would be sufficient for immediate ejection from my "premises" without the luxury of cooling off in the car park.

RE: [Under Review]
Listen up Andrew Pring - what discussions are these - anyone that remotely criticises a pubco gets banned or has their comments put under review. These forums dont allow true discussion. I just happen to have lost my life savings and am being screwed by a pubco. Your newspaper doesnt allow full and frank discussion - why not?

RE: [Under Review]
Also Andrew Pring - why don't you tell us how much money your newspaper takes every week off enterprise and punch etc - why put editorial comments out for the self publicisation of enterprise when anyone who is in this game knows it is complete kak. If you;ve got any balls at all which I very much doubt from your previous post why don't you meet up with me and I will tell you what its like in the front line - dont suppose you want to know about that

RE: [Under Review]
Also Andrew Pring - get this - I refuse to serve some chav thug for being underage - get put into hospital and what happens - police give him a caution. What makes more news in the MA - an announcement by Ted Tuppen that he is helping out licencees in difficulties which everyone on these forums including David, Ken and all the rest know is complete kak.
